FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Tokkummaa Humnota Bilisummaa Oromiyaa (THBO)

March 7, 2011

United Liberation Forces of Oromiyaa (ULFO) and Revolutionary Democratic Oromo Liberation Front (RDOLF) have Completed a Successful Merger of the Two Organizations.

Following a fairly long process of inter-organizational discussions, in a momentous step towards consolidating Oromo political forces under a united front that is guided by forward strategy, on 5th of March 2011, ULFO and RDOLF have merged their organizations and have adopted ULFO as the merger name.

ULFO and RDOLF have noted that the driving factors for their merger are many folds: the conspicuous need for unity of purpose among Oromo political organizations; the urgency of taking collective and decisive actions to bring about political freedom, peace, stability and prosperity for the Oromo nation; the need to respond affirmatively from a unified political platform to the historical call and duty to bring about dignity to the Oromo nation; and the urgent need for complete alignment of organizations and structuring to take maximum advantage of the fleeting political opportunities that arise as a matter of natural and induced political momentums in Oromiyaa and the Horn of Africa.

In a joint declaration, ULFO and RDOLF have resolved that they pledge to unify their respective organizations into one, solid entity in order to effectively and efficiently carry on the Oromo political struggle for freedom.

The declaration assures the Oromo public and other Organizations that one of ULFO’s immediate tasks hereafter, in a bid to further empower the Oromo people, is to open further discussions with heightened spirit and at utmost readiness with other Oromo political organizations that have identical political goals and aspirations for the Oromo nation.

The unified organization (ULFO) noted that it is with foremost priority that the timing of the merger has taken effect to align its political activities with the current historical tide that is giving birth to sweeping political changes in parts of Africa and the Middle East.

The declaration also calls upon the Oromo nation, friends of the Oromo nation, and the oppressed and marginalized peoples in Ethiopia, to rally with ULFO in order to bring about sweeping political changes in Oromiyaa and the Horn of Africa at large.
